ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

¡ENCANTADA! is an annual juried exhibition and sale of original paintings sponsored by the Rio Grande Art Association (RGAA). The show features both standard and small work paintings. RGAA is a nonprofit 501(c)7 organization dedicated to the education and promotion of member artists. Our focus is on creativity and originality. All styles are welcome from traditional, representational, and abstract to non-traditional, contemporary, and avant-garde that do not require glass or plexiglass protection. It is recommended that all media be varnished or sealed.

RGAA’s Awards for standard works are $1000 first place; $700 second place; and $500 third place. Small works’ awards are $600 first place; $400 second place; and $300 third place. Several cash merit awards will also be given in both categories.

RGAA membership is required for entry into ¡Encantada! 2024. Dues must be paid in full before submitting to the call for entry and remain current throughout the show or through November 29. To join or renew membership, visit rgaanm.org, click “Member Signup,” and follow directions. Payment may be made online or by mail. Mail checks to RGAA, PO Box 40148, Albuquerque, NM 87196. Mailed membership payments must arrive by 8 am, Thursday, August 17, 2024 to qualify for entry.

User Entry Process Tutorial

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 or older and a member of RGAA. Paid membership is required through the end of December 2024. If not already a member, you may sign-up at rgaanm.org. Click on “Membership Sign-up” and follow the directions.
  • Paintings must have been produced within the last two years from the entry deadline and not been in any other RGAA sponsored show.
  • All work must be original and at least 80% of the surface must be hand painted. Works produced on any substrate with pre-embossed or pre-printed images are ineligible.
  • Submitted artwork shall not violate copyright law. All artwork entered will be original in concept and executed solely by the entering artist. Works produced from copyrighted materials (i.e., published materials, photographs, or other artworks) are ineligible. Artwork done under the guidance of an instructor is also ineligible for entry.
  • The artist retains the copyright for his/her image(s). However, by submitting to this show, the artist agrees to RGAA’s use of the images for publicity, promotion, and archival purposes.
  • Paintings may have relief elements not to extend or recede more than 1.5 inches beyond the artwork surface.
  • All work must have a professional presentation, be suitably framed, and ready to hang with D-rings and picture hanging wire (hanging wire must peak at 3.5” from the top edge of the work).
  • Gallery-wrapped canvases without a frame are acceptable. They must be a minimum depth of 1.5” and painted on all four sides.
  • No saw-tooth hangers will be accepted. No name plaques may be attached.

SIZE AND PRICING

The minimum sales price for standard work paintings is $250. The maximum unframed painting size is 50” wide and 72” high. The minimum unframed painting size is 108 square inches (width x height), which is equivalent to a 9” x 12” canvas or panel. Maximum frame width is 4”. For example, a framed 9” x 12” panel may not exceed 17” x 20”. Each artist may submit up to 3 images for selection into the show through the online entry form at rgaanm.org. Entry fees are $15 per image. Up to 3 juried works may be accepted and hung in the exhibit from each artist if space allows. Otherwise, RGAA will hang two of the top juried paintings per artist.

Small Works minimum sales price is $100. The maximum unframed painting size is 80 square inches (width x height), which is equivalent to an 8” x 10” canvas or panel. There is no minimum size. Maximum frame width is 3”. For example, a framed 8” x 10” panel may not exceed 14” x 16”. Each artist may submit up to 3 images for selection into the show through the online entry form at rgaanm.org. Entry fees are $15 per image. All three paintings may be selected for exhibition.

PAINTING SUBMISSION

All entries will be submitted through the entry application, ArtCall.org, linked on the RGAA website at rgaanm.org. To enter, click the ¡ENCANTADA! 2024 button and follow the entry instructions. ArtCall requires a user name and password (Not your RGAA password). If you already have one from previous shows, use that one. If you are new to ArtCall, you will be prompted to create one. There are separate entry categories: Standard and Small. All entry fees must be paid online. Please note: you will be charged $15 after each entry vs. a totaled amount after completion. Entry fees are nonrefundable.

DIGITAL FILE IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

  • Crop image to show only the artwork. No frames or background please.
  • File format is JPEG
  • File name is the painting title with appropriate spaces, not to exceed 45 characters in total. Please count as the title needs to fit on the wall labels.

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK

An email from ArtCall.org will be sent to every artist entering the show for each painting entered with either an acceptance or rejection letter. Accepted artwork must be hand-delivered to Expo New Mexico Hispanic Arts Gallery on Sunday, November 3rd from 11 am to 2 pm. For any shipped artwork, please contact the ¡ENCANTADA! Show Chair at showchair@rgaanm.org for instructions. The artwork images submitted through the entry application must exactly match the respective delivered artwork. Any artist delivering a substitute for the original submission will be disqualified from exhibiting all his/her paintings in the current ¡ENCANTADA! exhibition and the following two ¡ENCANTADA! exhibitions

TERMS OF ARTWORK SALE

RGAA will retain a 30%, based on sale price for standard works and 25% of the sale price for small works for all paintings sold. We will send payment to the artist for sold paintings within 14 days of the closing of the exhibition.

RGAA will handle all sales and collect all associated payments from buyers, including New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax (if applicable). Buyers (if painting not picked up in person) will pay all packing and shipping charges, insurance costs, and handling expenses incurred for the sale.

Artwork sold during the exhibition may be taken by the buyer if they live out-of-state. All other sold paintings will hang until the end of the show unless special conditions apply as determined by the Show Chair.

Any artist who presells a painting that has been “Accepted” into the show is asked to donate 30% of the large works presale price and 25% for small works presale price to RGAA. The painting is still eligible to be hung in the show and receive an award. Any artist selling an exhibited artwork without going through RGAA will be disqualified from exhibiting all his/her paintings in the current ¡ENCANTADA! exhibition and the following two ¡ENCANTADA! Exhibitions.

AGREEMENT OF ENTRY AND LIABILITY

RGAA has the right to refuse or disqualify any artwork that fails to meet eligibility, entry, and exhibition requirements or deemed inappropriate for public viewing. Neither Rio Grande Art Association nor Expo New Mexico, their agents, employees, volunteers, or anyone working on the exhibition will be held responsible for any loss or damage of any artwork in the exhibition. Exhibiting artists are responsible for purchasing insurance to cover their work during transit and exhibition.

Exhibiting artists are responsible to make arrangements for painting pick-up if they cannot do so themselves for any reason including inclement weather. An artist’s entry submission and payment constitute acceptance of all conditions and terms in this prospectus.
